Don't want to make half the crew nuts do we?
Description
Intelligent
non-corporeal life-forms whose minds are believed to be among the most beautiful
in the universe. By contrast, Medusans' physical appearance is so hideous
that one look at a Medusan by a human will cause total madness in the human
unless the human is wearing a protective visor. While traveling aboard the
Enterprise, Medusan ambassador Kollos shielded himself in a protective container
in order to protect the human members of the crew. Medusans' sensory
systems are radically different from those of humanoid life-forms, and their
ability to orient themselves in subspace makes them well suited for navigational
tasks aboard starships (Is There in Truth No Beauty? -TOS).
